Blues Band Live
The Blues Band
Brand Loyalty/Bye Bye Blues
Repertoire: Repuk1151/Repuk 1152
Released: February 24
One of the most highly-regarded of British Blues outfits, The Blues Band have their albums Brand Loyalty (1982) and the double live CD Bye Bye Blues (1983) reissued on the Repertoire Records label this month.
The two albums represent the last releases from the band in what was a temporary hiatus, before they reconvened in the late eighties, bowing to public demand.
Brand Loyalty is a balance of Blues covers and band originals. Bye Bye Blues was a valedictory in-concert recording.
Vocalist Paul Jones joined a lengthy stage run in a production of the musical Guys and Dolls, and – unable to commit to more Blues Band work – the band decided to call it a day, but not before recording a superb live album, featuring guests Ian Stewart, who supplied piano (and roadied for The Rolling Stones), Phil May of The Pretty Things, Jo-Anne Kelly (sister of BB guitarist Dave Kelly), The Rumour Brass Section, and the godfather of British Blues, Alexis Korner.
Both CDs contain bonus tracks, and sleeve notes from Rock journalist Michael Heatley, Brand Loyalty and Bye Bye Blues represent another excellent pair of archive reissues from Repertoire Records.
The Blues Band are an active combo; of Paul Jones (vocals, harmonica), Dave Kelly (guitar, vocals), Tom McGuiness (vocals, guitar), Gary Fletcher (Bass, guitar), and Rob Townsend (drums) and has been constant for nearly 30 years.
