Who goes to Brum
[private]The Who have added the LG Arena in Birmingham to their UK tour. They will perform their 1973 double album Quadrophenia, in its entirety, with a selection of Who classics.
The UK tour follows a hugely successful North American tour. Quadrophenia is said to have marked the British band’s second rock opera (after Tommy), raised the bar for rock albums as an art form, hit No.2 on the UK album chart, and massively influenced the future of UK style, fashion and culture.
The new concert version of Quadrophenia is personally directed by Roger Daltre.
The Who’s tour features founding members Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend, who will be joined by Zak Starkey (drums), Pino Palladino (bass), Simon Townshend (guitar/backing vocals), John Corey (keyboards), Loren Gold (keyboards/backing vocals) and Frank Simes (musical director, keyboards/backing vocals).
Tickets were on sale from Friday, February 1, £60, £65 and £70. www.theticketfactory.com or 0844 338 8000.
The Who are joined by Elvis Costello & The Imposters on February 28 at Madison Square Garden for a benefit to raise money for Teen Cancer America and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.
Funds raised go towards helping hospitals develop units to support teenagers battling cancer, and providing state-of-the-art facilities to keep patients occupied during long stays in hospital.
The show is the final US date of their current US tour.[/private]
