Dreamboats and Petticoats
Churchill Theatre, Bromley, February 10 2014
I saw one of the earliest performances of ‘DREAMBOATS AND PETTICOATS’ when it debuted at THE CHURCHILL THEATRE, BROMLEY back in 2009, I loved everything about it then and 5 years on it is even better. Full of vitality and energy the cast take us back to the innocent days of when the ‘swingin’ sixties’ was yet to be felt.
Over 40 of the era’s biggest hits built into a believably accurate tale of how teenage life was in a church youth club back in the day, heading the talented cast are Greg Fossard, Hannah Boyce, Matthew Colthart and Louise Olley and the two dancing saxophonists, Chloe Edwards-Wood and Victoria Quigley deserve special mention, but this is a solid company performance, not too slick, just tight and flawless.
Easy to see how it has become so phenomenally successful with one classic hit after another including ‘Let’s Dance’, Bobby’s Girl’, ‘The Wanderer’, ‘Shakin’ All Over’, ‘Do You Wanna Dance’, ‘Great Pretender’ ‘Da Do Ron Ron’, and ‘Let’s Twist Again’ with Roger Martin (Dad) raising the roof with ‘Hey Baby!’
‘Dreamboats is at The Churchill until Feb 15, touring nationwide throughout the year including Orchard Theatre, Dartford March 3rd – 8th and due back in the West End later in the year, so if you haven’t seen it…why? And if you want to see it again you have plenty of opportunity.
