Mae makes her own mark in music
With a professional singing career spanning four decades, Mae McKenna has worked in every conceivable genre of music at the highest level.
She made her first album when only 17 years old as lead singer with Contraband on the legendary Transatlantic label. Mae has since recorded five critically- acclaimed solo albums – three of which featured her own songs and production. For two years, Mae was in the original West end production of ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’.
As a studio singer, Mae has sung and arranged backing vocals on more than 200 Top 20 pop records for star artistes, including Kylie Minogue, Blur, Manic Street Preachers, lan Dury, Cliff Richard, and Donna Summer.
Her TV credits include 14 years on “Stars in Their Eyes”, Barrymore, The Les Dawson Show. The Val Doonican Show, Pop Idol, Soapstar Superstars, X Factor, and Doctor Who. She has even sung in a trio with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa at The classical music awards.
Numerous TV commercials and films have featured her voice including Asda, Clover, A Muppet Christmas Carol. Mae is the voice on the beautiful “Mrs Brown’s Lullaby” from the children’s movie “Nanny McPhee.”
Before leaving London to live in the Salisbury area, Mae had been coaching show business professionals for recording and management companies, She recently set up her own state-of-the-art recording studio an would now like to offer her experience and expertise to newcomers and those in the business who need extra support.
Mae’s teaching methods are unique and holistic. Having suffered from stage fright in her early career, Mae was helped by a hypnotherapist, and this led to her training in hypnotherapy and psychotherapy. Whether a budding professional, someone who would like to take exams for UCAS points, an older person who has always wanted to sing, or someone who is terrified and would like to connect to their voice, Mae says she has the skills to help.
“I believe in natural, healthy singing, and my focus is drawing out each singer’s creativity and uniqueness, while promoting healthy usage,” she said.
Mae can also offer group lessons and related workshops in harmony and vocal improvisation. She teaches all contemporary styles – Pop, Rock, Jazz, Folk and Blues. Among reviews of her and her
