R&B 50th anniversary
THE BLUESCLUB Band opens 2014 at The Eel Pie Club, Twickenham on Thursday, January 9.
Later in the month, Chimes International launch the 50th anniversary Ultimate Rhythm and Blues tour starting at Aylesbury’s Waterside Theatre.
The Eel Pie’s club gig will be a rip-roaring start to 2014! Bluesclub’s star line-up is Guy Fletcher (Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler Band) on Keys, steel guitar; William Topley (The Blessing) on vocals, Peter Hope- Evans (Medicine Head and Pete Townshend) on mouth organ and Jews harp, Danny Cummings (Dire Straits, Mark Knopfler Band) on drums; and Robbie McIntosh (The Pretenders, Paul McCartney Band and John Mayer) on guitars, with Alan Rogan on Fender bass.
With a combined love for the Blues of America from the 1930s to the 70s, the set list includes songs from artists as varied as Leadbelly, Son house and Charley Patton to Slim Harpo, Sonny Boy Williamson, John Lee Hooker, Taj Mahal and Canned Heat. It promises to be a terrific night of UK Rhythm n Blues. The Eel Pie Club is at The Patch, 67 London Road, Twickenham TW1 3SZ. Doors 8:30pm. Music from 9:15pm. Robert Pratt and Mark Howes have put together a show with a 27-venue tour featuring The Zombies, The Yardbirds, Animals & Friends, Spencer Davis and Maggie Bell. Between them, the artists had 37 hit records in the charts for more than 300 weeks.
The tour starts on January 23 at Aylesbury and finishes at Leicester’s De Montfort Hall on March 7.
