Rock of Ages

A Broadway and West End smash hit, a hugely successful movie, which I viewed with caution as the music featured is so precious to me but I thoroughly enjoyed, and now the nationwide tour of ‘ROCK OF AGES’ hits the CHURCHILL THEATRE, BROMLEY with a huge bang…

The simplest of stories, slightly different to the movie in sub-plot and song list, of boy, meets girl in seedy rock club on Sunset Strip kicks off at full throttle with ‘Just Like Living In Paradise’ and does not let up, 70’s & 80’s power ballads from Foreigner and REO Speedwagon catalogues, AOR classics from Whitesnake and Bon Jovi, with left-field monsters from Quiet Riot and Twisted Sister, the girls delivery of ‘We’re Not Gonna Take It’ was ‘in your face’ Runaways attitude at its best.

Vocally and musically everyone delivered, NOEL SULLIVAN and CORDELIA FARNWORTH excel as Drew and Sherrie, with Ben Richards brilliant as Stacee Jaxx, the rock god in decline, but this is a solid production throughout.

Bright and flashy, rude and crude, completely over the top, intentionally cheap and tacky, loud and proud, a feast for the eyes and ears, this is a Motley Crue video that you don’t want to end! By the time everyone was on their feet to ‘Don’t Stop Believing’ you had seen a show that fully justified the hype.

A risqué’n’raunchy, rock’n’roll panto that’s a Whole Lotta FUN!

‘Rock Of Ages’ is in Bromley until the 21st, and tours nationally throughout the year.
